Social Media Pressure (2)

Do you think ( fill in, please, what is applicable) : I blog (tweet, Facebook, LinkedIn, Wordpress, Vimeo, Tumblr...), therefore I am? And do you feel guilty if you do not do it? Or do you think you are not part of "cool crowd" if you do not reply to all brilliant comments, tweets, massages......you received in last day? Do you hallucinate you hear pings on your smartphone that are not really there? Do you have an irresistible need to share random events in your life as blog-fodder ?

explanatory note:
A, B, C : various social media, E : barred window

Than you suffer from a new kind of social pressure – social media pressure. Or - even worse - you might just have Obsessive-Compulsive Blogging Disorder.....
And in the worst case, according to Sherry Turkle (professor of Massachusetts Institute of Technology)
" social networks are more like mutual isolation networks that detach people from meaningful interactions with one another and make them less human."

........

We are still learning, how social media impacts on our sense of personal identity.

......

( and now I am going to step out this vehicle and going to the real world .... to drink a glass of wine to celebrate the birth of baby blackbirds , see here )

  1. I like that quote from the professor, very true.

Yes, everyone hates the way the world is obsessed with social media, we know this because they post internet comments about it all the time. ha

  3. This is clever stuff Art!!!! I am liking these vehicles! I think the cool crowd feels the urge to reply to comments as much as the uncool crowd...it's the Super cool crowd who don't seem to reply to any....but some may class that as the super ignorant class.

    1. You're right again, Rod. The super cools don't put out any comment effort, but unfortunately their super coolness is super ignorant in a hip way :P

I comment a lot, I suppose, so maybe I'm just average cool? Rod comments more than me though. heh heh.

    2. So guys, now I do hesitate between being supercool or being super ignorant....
(being part of uncool crowd is no option)

    3. No I don't Ted!!(This isn't a comment!)

      Paragraph break.

Art, I think...I like being uncool...that's the new cool...if I didn't comment, how would people be able to confirm my uncoolness!

    4. In spite of the ambiguity, it seems that we remain capable of distinguishing cool attitudes from uncool ones. So what is cool? And does it mean that old "cool" means "uncool" in these days ?
it seems to make sense. Times are changing...

    5. True...(I read your link!)...The new cool is not to mention the word cool...its changed 180...Its now looc.
Obviously I am still unlooc. but thats cool.

  8. I like these drawings very much! Whimsical and mechanical, with pipes and rivets. And neat colors. (As for your question, my sky background is the only digital part of the thing you visited - it says so in the caption!) :P

As for the rest - I don't usually comment back on my own blog, unless there is a process kind of question. I do try to visit every commenter's page and make a comment in return. Sometimes several. Sometimes paragraphs! (Sometimes I apologize for the paragraphs.)

I also try to visit as many IF entries as I can, and also tons of other art blogs when I get a chance. It's a community I like! I rather think it has a positive impact on my humanity rather than a negative one.

I am kinda anti-Facebook and anti-Twitter, and do not participate in those. I don't have a cell phone. I believe I am an outlier in many respects like these. But I do post my stuff to a Tumblr and a bit of Pinterest (but these are also to get my Etsy shop out there a bit).

I feel compelled to post because I am trying to continue to advance my skills, and posting them sort of helps motivate me. Sorry for the overly long answer (filled with paragraphs)! ;)

    1. oh Cindy! Cool or not, I really appreciate it very much you found time to comment on my post.
      (new paragraph)

      I am, in a sense, an outlier too. A kind a perennial-thistle. :)
      (new paragraph)
      LOL

Thanks a lot and you do not have to apologize for paragraphs.
      (new paragraph)

It is true that blogging has also positive side. No doubt about it. (But it is also very nice field for studying psychological deviations)
      (new paragraph)

for me...it is a kind of playground
      LOL
