"Normalization" according to Art-is-jokken

"Normalization" is a name commonly given to the period 1969 to about 1987 in former Czechoslovakia. It was characterized by initial restoration of the conditions prevailing before the reform period in 1968. The most common attitudes  have been apathy, passivity, and escapism. Another symptom of the political malaise during the 1970s was the appearance of various forms of antisocial behavior. Also widespread alcoholism, already at levels that alarmed officials, increased. And teams of undercover agents spied on those considered enemies of the state......see my other post here.
